Hooray! This morning, Five Friends Foods learned that we were among the 70 Minnesota companies selected to advance to the semi-finalist round of the 2014 Minnesota Cup, an annual statewide entrepreneurship competition.
More than 1,300 businesses entered the competition in seven categories. Within the Food/Agriculture/Beverage category, we are joined by nine other Minnesota-based food start-ups including Punk Rawk Labs, Locally Laid, and Dashfire Bitters.
We’re very excited and thankful to you, our customers and friends, for your support these past two years. We’ve been very fortunate to see our business grow from one to four flavors and from just a handful to now over 40 stores. With your help, we aim to keep expanding and provide an even better product for the Twin Cities and beyond.
The Minnesota Cup is a great opportunity for us to gain mentorship from other excellent Minnesota food companies, learn from fellow food start-ups and compete for the possibility of seed money prizes. We are proud of our involvement and know that we’ll gain a lot from our participation.
The next step for us is to prepare a more detailed business plan and sit tight until the division finalists are announced on August 18. Each division winner will be awarded $30,000 in seed capital and one runner-up from each division will receive $5,000. All division winners will compete for the $50,000 grand prize on September 10 at the University of Minnesota’s McNamara Center.
So wish us luck, pick up some celebratory bars from your favorite local grocer and give us a shout onFacebook or Twitter! Thank you again to all of our customers, we couldn’t have come this far without you.
